The Sound of Thunder Reaction

The story, “Sound of Thunder” is another story with a surprise ending. This story is interesting, because it is about future technology, and the past. A time-travelling machine has been the topic for a lot of stories; however, this story uses it to explain the dangers of technology, and the importance of an individual’s actions. The ending of the story was very unbelievable, because the death of only one little butterfly changed the future; it changed the president and the spelling of words in general. One thing I don’t get about this story is how Eckels can be so scared of the dinosaur, and run off the path, when he was told to walk back to the machine. This makes me wonder how dinosaurs really looked, and if I would really want to see them or not. I think I would be scared too if I ever saw a tyrannosaurus rex. Another thing I like about this story is that, when I read it, it’s almost as if I can see the dinosaurs in my head, because the author is very descriptive, and uses figurative language to make the reader understand the situation more. I would recommend this story to people who like stories about dinosaurs, and adventure.

The Lady or The Tiger Reaction

I think the story, “The Lady or the Tiger”, is a remarkable one that makes you think about it days after you read it. The beginning was a bit boring, as the author explains about the semi-barbaric king and his kingdom. However, as I kept on reading and got to the part about his daughter, and the young man who fell in love with her and it got interesting. After reading this story, we voted on who we would’ve chosen if we were the princess, and it was amazing how I, and all the girls from the past years, chose to feed the man to the tiger, and all the boys chose the woman. I like this story very much because it is different, and doesn’t have a specific ending. I would suggest this story to anyone who likes stories with surprise endings, or stories that will make them think.

^Science Fair^

Science fair happened on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. My science fair topic was “Carbon Dioxide Everywhere”. In this project, I compared the amount of carbon dioxide in three different gas sources, ambient air, human breathe, and automobile exhaust. I gathered these gases in balloons, and released the gases through an indicator, Bromthymol Blue Solution, BTB. The color of the indicator changed, and to compare the Carbon dioxide, I needed to drop ammonia in each solution until the solution returned to its original color. The more drops needed to change the color back to its normal condition, the more amount of carbon dioxide there is in the solution. This works, because when the BTB solution is exposed to carbon dioxide, it changes into carbon acid, and ammonia, a base is used to neutralize it. My result was that automobile exhaust had the highest amount of carbon dioxide levels. Taking this further, considering the rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, I would suggest that people do green actions, such as recycling and driving smart.

"Weird Weather in a Warming World" Review

I hate to think about the effects of global warming on Earth. After reading the article,” Weird Weather in a Warming World” I became more aware of the events happening around me. The article says that recently, a lot of places are suffering from extreme weather. However, scientists think that it is not because of global warming, it’s just the usual extreme weather that happens a lot. The movie “The Day After Tomorrow” portrays extreme weather. The first time I saw this movie, I thought it was just a silly movie. However, as I read more and more articles about global warming, this movie doesn’t seem silly anymore. Anyway, I think this article is very interesting. The author of this article suggests nation to start the action of protecting people from extreme weather. I agree with him, and also think that everyone, not only governments, should start thinking about this.

Research Paper Topic

Air pollution is one of the many disasters in this world. Since our topic this year is “Saving”, I would like to do my research paper on air purification. In my paper I would mention what all the factory and car exhaust is doing to our environment and us.

"Schizophrenia - Stolen Minds, Stolen Lives" DVD Review

Schizophrenia is a brain disease, which people have from when they were conceived, but it only shows its’ symptoms when they are 15-30 years old. I think that this disease is deadly and life-shattering. It is said that people with Schizophrenia have hallucinations, hear voices, have communication problems, and are very paranoid. They sometimes think that people in a room want to take over their life and control every aspect of it. I can’t even imagine how they spend every second of their life in terror. It’s just so sad. Even though only 1% of the population gets this disease, it shouldn’t be overlooked because anyone, even the people who might contribute a lot to the world, even you might get it. I hope scientists or researchers find a cure for this disease soon; because it is very sad to watch these patients suffer.

"The Interlopers" Review

“The Interlopers” is a very intriguing story. It’s a story full of adventure, and twists. It’s about two men in a fight that accidentally get stuck under a log, and become friends, then they see their men running towards them, but after a few seconds, they notice that those “men” are wolves. The twist was much unexpected. As I was reading this story, I thought it was boring and strange in the beginning, because arguments don’t usually end that fast. However, the ending made me rethink the whole story. The twist in the end makes this story even more interesting. I especially like the way the author wrote the story, he wrote it so that the readers would know exactly what both the men are thinking about. The story isn’t biased; we would know the whole situation. In conclusion, I think that “The Interlopers” is a heart-captivating and exciting story. I would recommend this story to whoever likes stories with twists.

"The Most Dangerous Game" Review

“The Most Dangerous Game” is a very interesting story with a moral. This story is about a hunter who believes that the animals that get hunted don’t have any feelings; however he changes his mind when he accidentally falls out a yacht and has to be hunted by a hunter on an island. This story is very intense, especially when the author describes the situation when the hunter gets hunted. There is also a surprise ending in this story, the man who gets hunted swims back to the hunter’s mansion, and surprises the hunter when he comes back thinking the man escaped. This ending made the story even more interesting. However, I think this story is a bit far-fetched. Who would hunt humans for fun? I don’t think even the cruelest human being would. There is usually a reasonable motive for killing a person; people don’t kill just because they can’t find a good animal to hunt. That is absurd. Apart from that, this story was pretty good. It is what you can call a page-turner.
